The UK’s future energy needs can only be met through a mixture of energy technologies and Peel’s investment in the sector is designed to support these needs. Security of energy supply will require measures such as greater household and business energy efficiency and improved distribution and transmission infrastructure alongside diverse sustainable generation.
Peel Environmental’s plans for a northern hub for energy, innovation and industry have been revealed with the launch of Protos. The announcement signals the start of construction at the Protos strategic site – formerly known as Ince Park – commencing with the delivery of £170 million of investment into the Northern Powerhouse.
The emerging UK shale gas sector represents a huge opportunity for the country to secure an indigenous source of natural gas and reduce our reliance on imports. There is an estimated 1,300 trillion cubic feet of shale gas in the Bowland Shale – even if only 10% of this is recovered this would still provide over 40 years’ supply.
Peel Gas and Oil was established in response to this market and grew out of the mineral development activity of Peel Environmental.
