M&S Simply Food gets go-ahead at Straiton Retail Park
M&S Simply Food has received planning consent from Midlothian Council to relocate and gain a further 10,000 sq ft at its Straiton location.
Set to open in 2021, the store will relocate from its current location on the lower level of the park to a unit previously occupied by Fabb Sofas on the popular park in Loanhead. A firm favourite amongst shoppers, the new store will have everything families need for their weekly shop, with hundreds of ‘Remarksable Value’ items, from vitamin D-rich bread loaves to RSPCA Assured Milk and M&S Select Farms fruit and veg, all at an everyday low price with the quality shoppers expect from M&S.
Leah Taylor, Development Manager at Peel L&P Retail Parks said: “In these uncertain times, we’re pleased to be moving forward with the new plans for this M&S Foodhall. Straiton Retail Park is continuing to benefit from our constant investment to improve and upgrade the park for customers.”
Alongside the relocation plans for M&S Simply Food, works are continuing on ‘The Terrace’ development with Muir Construction, one of Scotland’s largest privately-owned contracting companies. Set to complete in autumn 2020, the eye-catching £10 million development owned by Peel L&P will house up to 11 retail operators, with Greggs, Starbucks, Card Factory, The Works, Trespass and Archers Sleepcentre already committed to the site.
Scott Munro, M&S Head of Region, said: “Shopping habits are changing, so we’re reshaping our store estate to make sure it’s fit for the future, meeting the needs of customers today and those of tomorrow. As part of this journey, we’re excited to be opening a brand-new large M&S Foodhall at Straiton Retail Park, which will offer local customers over 50% more Foodhall space than our current store. The new store will be completed this Winter and we will keep the community updated as the works progress.”
Defying the negative headlines surrounding retail, Peel L&P Retail Parks continue to attract national stores across a number of its parks across the UK, attracting an annual footfall figure of more than 7 million visitors at the Straiton site alone. The parks are aided by dedicated investment to help improve the facilities for tenants and customers.
