Northstone teams up with Wondrwall on energy-saving tech for Bolton residents
Northern-based place maker and homebuilder Northstone, part of Peel L&P, has teamed up with Manchester’s Wondrwall to install energy-saving technology at its first homes in Bolton.
The intelligent living system will allow residents to automate their heating, lighting and security, reducing energy use by up to 20% and making homes cheaper to run.
The equipment will be installed in all 150 homes at Northstone’s Silkash development in Westhoughton and will adjust automatically to people’s daily routines to achieve optimal running of the home and avoid wasted energy.
The Wondrwall system provides an advanced home security system that sounds the alarm if it hears a window being smashed. It also improves home safety by flashing lights around the house at the sound of the smoke alarm to ensure everyone inside is awake. Key fobs act as panic buttons and can provide useful check-in notifications as family members return home.
Homeowners can control the system via voice through Amazon Alexa or through a mobile phone app and for entertainment, Sonos speakers will provide premium sound quality for music.
When complete towards the end of 2021, Northstone’s Silkash scheme will provide a mix of two, three and four bed-homes to help meet local housing needs. Homes will be available to purchase later on this year.
The development will also create 160 jobs and apprenticeship opportunities to support skills and the local economy.
Northstone’s Commercial Director Craig Nutter said: “This partnership with Wondrwall will provide energy savings both financially for residents and environmentally by helping to reduce carbon and we hope to roll it out across all our developments.
“The innovative system can make real-time adjustments to heat and power homes to suit the needs of the household and we think it’s a feature that will really help to people to manage their homes.”
Wondrwall are industry leaders in intelligent home management and renewable energy technology.
Every Wondrwall light switch includes built-in Amazon Alexa, allowing residents to speak to control the lights or temperature.
The home will also perform plenty of other useful functions, adds CEO of Wondrwall, Daniel Burton: “You can ask your home about your schedule for the day, or ask it to order a taxi. If you are late home from work, you can tell it to order a pizza. You can even play the radio or stream music via the speakers in the light switches or the Sonos speakers, with a different sound in every room. We think this will meet the needs of modern families and make their lives easier and more enjoyable.”
