Peel L&P insight: HR director, Carrie Westwell reflects on Best Companies Day 2019

On Friday 1st March 2019, we celebrated Best Companies Day 2019 in style with Peel L&P being placed at number 79 on The Sunday Times top 100 companies to work for list and being accredited with 2 stars for our outstanding engagement.

We recognise we couldn’t have achieved the accolade without having the best team (with almost 85% taking part in the survey) so we wanted to bring everyone together to celebrate. Best Company celebration events were organised at each location (MediaCityUK, Quayside MediaCityUK, Gloucester Quays, and Peel L&P head office) and we shipped goody boxes to our three colleagues in Glasgow and Doncaster so they could also join us in the celebrations and watch the action on a live stream.

We all enjoyed lunch and drinks before tuning into a presentation given by Neil Lees, Deputy Chairman. We wanted to provide all our teams with a good understanding of what the achievements meant, how we have listened to their feedback over the past five years and how we will continue to act on this in the coming year.

We also focused on what we have delivered as a team and for our people throughout the year from charity events to our Health and Wellbeing agenda, development programmes and even the 14 babies we’ve had in the business! Our people are our greatest asset and our aim as the ‘People Team’ is to realise possibility in our people now, and in the future, by supporting and looking after them. It was also great that Neil took the time to share a business update with us focusing on growth, reinvestment and partnerships as well as an update on the charitable giving and donations from Peel L&P.

These achievements are a statement of who we are as an employer and are great, not only to encourage and attract new talent to the organisation, but also helps us internally focus on what’s important to our people and how we can create an even better workplace. Times change and we have to keep up with what our people want and need from their work life and careers.

It was a celebratory affair at all the locations and I was delighted to get comments and photos showing everyone having fun, taking a moment to reflect and most of all being part of an excellent team which continue to achieve great things. It was lovely to be able to take a moment to say thank you and look to the future.
