The vast swathe of land which is home to Manchester’s iconic intu Trafford Centre and other major attractions including Airkix and Chill Factore, is set to be officially named Trafford City, creating a unique mixed use destination brand in the North West.
Trafford City encompasses intu Trafford Centre as well as the surrounding 3.5 million square feet of retail, leisure and office space that includes Event City and some of the most successful and high profile brands in the UK such as Play Factore, David Lloyd, DW Sports along with blue chip office occupiers; Reckitts Benckiser, Capita , Spie and Travel Counsellors.
It will be the first time that this world class destination, which currently employs 16,500 people and attracts 44 million visitors a year, has been given a destination brand name that will firmly place it on the national map.
Due to the growing number of leisure and business visitors travelling from beyond the region the current number of 750 hotel bedrooms across Trafford City is set increase at least two-fold as part of the masterplan for the area.
The announcement comes as work is nearing completion on the new £45million Western Gateway Infrastructure Scheme (WIGIS Road ) that will bring an additional road link into Trafford City from the A57 in Salford to Trafford Boulevard and Junction 10 of the M60 next Summer.
The final go ahead of the eagerly awaited metro link line between Trafford City and Manchester City is also expected to be given shortly.
