There will be all the thrills and spills of a seaside-style sporting extravaganza when Gloucester Rugby Beach Weekender returns to Gloucester Quays Outlet this August Bank Holiday Weekend.

Tons of sand are being brought to Gloucester Quays to create not one but two special beaches at Orchard Square for this fantastic family event.

Even though Gloucester may be the UK’s most inland port, there will be plenty of sand and seaside fun at the dockside location for everyone to enjoy.

Gloucester Quays is teaming up with Gloucester Rugby for the Beach Weekender which takes place from Saturday, August 27 to Bank Holiday Monday August 29. It will be open from 10am to 9pm on Saturday, 10am to 8pm on Sunday and 10am to 6pm on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Beach Weekender will feature a thrilling Beach Rugby 7s on the main beach as well as cricket and football games and coaching and a host of activities to keep children and adults entertained.

There will be a unique chance to meet the star Gloucester Rugby players on the afternoon of Sunday August 28 on the beach and an opportunity to get photos and autographs with Gloucester’s sporting legends.

Mike Turner, Commercial Director at Gloucester Rugby, said: “We’re thrilled to be teaming up with Gloucester Quays once again for our second Rugby Beach Weekender, which promises to be even bigger and better than last year. The event has such a great family atmosphere and the players are all on top form and full of enthusiasm as we move into this exciting new season.”

Now in its second year, Gloucester Rugby Beach Weekender will also feature a second family beach in Orchard Square where young and old can chill out, complete with deckchairs, traditional Punch and Judy, face painting and much more.

There will also be a beach BBQ, live music from bands including Stripped Bare, Durandau Ballet, The Hush and Deja Vudoo, various DJs, the Best of Gloucestershire Market, together with delicious local food and drink.

Gloucester Quays centre manager Matt Bird said: “We are delighted to team up with Gloucester Rugby once again for what I am sure is going to be a wonderful fun-filled Bank Holiday Weekend for all the family.

“Gloucester Rugby is of course at the heart of our city and I’m sure many people will be eager to demonstrate their sporting skills as well as learning some new ones and meet their sporting heroes.

“Gloucester Rugby Beach Weekender is going to be a terrific community event and we are expecting a great many visitors to head for the beach at Gloucester Quays.

“It will also provide an opportunity for visitors to see the fantastic brands we have here at Gloucester Quays with up to 70 per cent discount prices as well as enjoy our vibrant and rapidly expanding leisure quarter.”

Games will take place on the specially created lawn at Pillar and Lucy Square.
