Christmas Time at Gloucester Quays has seen the tills ringing with record sales as Gloucestershire shoppers go on a spending spree at this year’s much-loved festive events.
This year the Victorian Christmas Market was for an extended 11 day period and total sales during the event were up by 24 percent compared to the same period last year. Retailers hitting record sales included All Saints, Levi’s, Crew Clothing and H Samuel, with individual store sales up as high as 57 percent compared to last year.
The award-winning Victorian Christmas Market, which ran from 16 until 26 November, saw the Quays transformed with more than 200 decorated festive chalets, crowds of entertaining Dickensian characters and Victorian style attractions, all on the spectacular historic docks alongside the popular real open-air Winter Ice Rink.
Gloucester Quays has also reported increased footfall over the event period with a 12 percent rise for the 11 days of the event compared to the same period last year.
Matt Bird centre manager at Gloucester Quays, said: “The Victorian Christmas Market has grown into such an amazing success. Its reputation is now such that many visitors travelled considerable distances to be here.
“The fantastic sales results are a testament to the vibrant and lively destination we’ve created at Gloucester Quays which has transformed the centre into a thriving seasonal visitor attraction.
“Christmas Time festivities continue at Gloucester Quays with the real open-air Winter Ice Rink open until 2nd January and the Enchanted Christmas Market, which runs until Christmas Eve.”
Sales have also been boosted by a record number of new brands joining the outlet this year including Ted Baker, Jack Wills, Lindt, Joules and The Cosmetic Company Store.
Anyone who missed the Victorian Christmas Market has another chance to browse some beautiful traditional chalet style stalls at Gloucester Quays Enchanted Christmas Market which is open until Christmas Eve. With 30 festive artisan stalls full of beautiful and unique handcrafted gifts and treats, nestled around the real open-air festive Winter Ice Rink and Ferris wheel, there is something for all ages to enjoy.
Gloucester Quays stores are open until 9pm on week days until 29 December.
