Peel L&P has been recognised as a business that supports its employees to volunteer at the Trafford Volunteer Awards 2019 which recognises the outstanding achievements and inspirational contribution that volunteers make in Trafford.
Jo Robertson, People and Pay Specialist picked up the award on behalf of Peel L&P’s people team from the Mayor of Trafford at the Volunteer Recognition Ceremony, hosted on Sunday 21st July at 12.15pm in gardens at Trafford Town Hall.
Carrie Westwell, Peel L&P’s Director of People and Culture said: “We’re proud to support many volunteering initiatives across north west England. During 2018/19 over 2,000 hours of our peoples time was dedicated to helping a variety of charities and initiatives from tree planting to beach clean-ups and we look forward to getting involved in many more before the year is out.”
The Peel L&P volunteering policy provides at least one day of paid volunteering to all team members and many use in excess of this policy, which is supported. Peel L&P also supports skills and education through many schools, universities and colleges, such as Bridge GM and a partnership with Teach First, a charity supporting schools in deprived areas.
The news comes in unison with Peel L&P announcing it is one of the first businesses in the region to sign up to the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter Supporters’ Network – the first of its kind in the UK. The Charter, supported by Greater Manchester Combined Authority and the Local enterprise Partnership, encourages employers to develop good jobs, deliver opportunities for people to progress and help employers in the region to grow and succeed.
Carrie concludes: “Both the Trafford Volunteer Awards and the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter are testament to our continued and dedicated efforts to becoming accredited as a living wage employer, supporting more flexible working, health and wellbeing activities and development opportunities for employees. We will continue to work in partnership with local charities and other organisations to give something back to the community.”
In 2019, Peel L&P reached no.79 in The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For 2019 list receiving a two-star Best Companies accreditation in its first year of applying – recognising outstanding levels of employee engagement.
