Peel L&P has successfully let the contract for a new community sports facility and work has begun on a 3.5-acre community playground and sports pitch right at the heart of Hayfield Green, close to Doncaster Sheffield Airport.
Instructed by Delyse Bailey, Development Manager at Peel L&P and designed by Landscape Architects, Randall Thorp, the play facility has been created to appeal to all ages. As well as a sports pitch, other items include a Multi-use Games Area (MUGA), an outdoor table tennis table and a playground which is designed around “natural play” for the under 5s including rocks, fallen trees and ground modelling to supplement the more usual play features.
The scheme has been designed with the close involvement of Auckley Parish Council, who will own the facility once works are complete. A dowry from Peel L&P will ensure that the playground will be maintained in the future. The value of the contract and the dowry is within the budget of £500,000.
Louise Morrissey, Director of Land and Planning at Peel L&P said: “It’s fantastic to see the Community Facility taking shape at Hayfield and I am pleased we have worked so successfully with the Parish Council to make this finally happen as relationships with local communities are so important. We’re proud to have fulfilled this longstanding commitment to providing community resource following the opening of Doncaster Sheffield Airport some years ago.”
Brambledown Landscape Services will construct the scheme over the next 13 weeks and already the site has been transformed.
