Consultation launched on plans for family homes at Horwich Golf Club

Following Northstone’s recent announcement that it will be bringing forward plans for new energy-efficient family homes at Horwich Golf Club, the housebuilder has launched a public consultation to understand the views of local residents.

Peel L&P’s dedicated housebuilding arm, Northstone, is bringing forward an outline planning application at the site of Horwich Golf Club that will seek agreement for up to 150 homes as well as the scale of development and access arrangements. The application also seeks to establish a significant new area around seven acres of ecological and recreational green space. This would be located towards the urban edge of Horwich linking the site to the open countryside beyond.

Whilst Northstone is in the early stages of developing plans for this proposed public green space, initial design ideas include enhancing existing natural environments and delivering greater diversity of habitats so that nature can flourish. Creating opportunities for the public to connect with nature is another key driver of these proposals. Ideas to facilitate this include the provision of an orchard or growing area that can be managed by local residents and used to help bring the community together.

Other initial design ideas include the provision of space for activity, wellbeing and play through the creation of new recreational routes and a children’s woodland play area.

Northstone is now calling for the local community to help shape the proposals for new homes and green space at Horwich Golf Club.

Jon England, Development Director at Northstone, part of Peel L&P, said:  “Northstone is delighted to be launching plans for up to 150 energy efficient homes and new community green space in Horwich. Our homes are different to a traditional housebuilder and we focus on creating spaces for modern day living within thoughtfully planned settings to encourage thriving communities.

“Our plans for Horwich Golf Club include a new green space for the community which we hope will leave a positive legacy for future generations. We’re encouraging local people to get involved in our public consultation so that these plans respond to the wishes of the community and deliver a scheme that Horwich can be proud of.”

Northstone’s public consultation for Horwich Golf Club runs from Friday 31st July to Friday 14th August. Due to current social distancing guidelines, the consultation is being run virtually to allow residents to view the plans and provide feedback safely from their homes. A leaflet outlining the plans and how to get involved in the consultation has been delivered to approximately 3,200 residential addresses located closest to the site. However, all residents can view the plans and have their say by visiting the consultation website, www.newhomesforhorwich.co.uk.

Feedback can also be sent via email to newhomesforhorwich@havingyoursay.co.uk. All feedback should be provided by Friday 14th August to be taken into account by the development team ahead of an outline planning application being submitted to Bolton Council.
