Northstone on-site at its first scheme of 150 new family homes in Bolton

Work is underway on 150 new energy-efficient homes in Bolton which will provide a mix of quality family housing with smart-living features and promote more neighbourly communities.

Northern-based place maker and homebuilder Northstone, part of Peel L&P, has started on groundworks, roads and sewers for its maiden development at Bolton Road in Westhoughton called Silkash.

Silkash will provide a mix of two, three and four bed-homes to help meet local housing needs while creating 160 construction jobs and apprenticeship opportunities to support skills and the local economy.

Northstone, which launched in October 2018, will provide homes led by thoughtful, quality design with sustainability and community at its heart.

Homes will embrace smart living with options for homeowners to switch living and kitchen/dining areas to the front or back of the house.

Residents will also be able to automate their heating and electricity with added energy saving features throughout the house to significantly reduce fuel bills.

Outside, pedestrian-led streets will help to reduce traffic speeds for children to play more safely while pocket parks and mature landscaping throughout the development will help to create a sense of community and encourage a more neighbourly environment.

Phil Wilson, Peel L&P’s Executive Director of Strategic Land and Home Building said: “Northstone offers something different to a traditional housebuilder and our homes have been carefully designed to meet the needs of modern living with an emphasis on sustainability, design and efficiency.

“We’re excited to start on site at our first development and are looking forward to bringing our new-style homes to the market in Bolton while helping to meet the local demand for housing.”

The word Silkash originates from British poetry and means flakes of fine grey ash that gather around wood embers.

Northstone has chosen a collection of old dialect names themed around nature, light and space for its portfolio of developments.

The names also support Northstone’s Scandinavian-inspired design ethos of warmth, calmness and wellbeing.

‘Keld’, Northstone’s second development of around 250 homes is planned for Trough Laithe in Barrowford with proposals due to go to Pendle Council for a decision soon.

Homes at Silkash will be available to purchase from summer 2020 with the opening of the Huddle - Northstone’s sales office. Register your interest at www.northstone.co.uk
